Happy Long Weekend to all our Penbrooke Meadows families!

We had a wonderful first two days of school and we hope that students are excited for the new school year. We have welcomed many new students this year as well as welcoming back our returning students. We continue to accept registrations for students residing in our neighborhood, but we are currently not able to accept students from outside our boundaries. We look forward to a wonderful year together!

Parents will have connected with their child's teacher already, but we wanted to provide some staffing updates for everyone as there are some new faces this year as well as familiar faces in new roles.

We are happy to welcome Mrs. Tudda back as our administrative secretary after her parental leave. Joining her is Ms. Lora who is again filling in for Mrs. Smith. Ms. Lora will be with us until at least the end of November.

For our teaching teams, we have the following:

Mrs. Taylor is back from her parental leave, and she will be teaching our kindergarten students again this year.

In the grade 1/2 classrooms, we have Mrs. Karmin, Ms. Ali, and Ms. Wiedemann. Ms. Wiedemann is currently teaching for Mrs. Bushell, who is away on leave.

Mr. Jon has joined us in grade 2/3.

Mrs. Stride and Mrs. Khurana are again teaching grade 3/4.

Mrs. Clemens has changed positions this year and is teaching grade 4/5 until Mrs. Roberto returns from her parental leave.

Mrs. Greig and Miss Campbell are now teaching grade 5/6.

In the LEAD (Literacy, English, and Academic Development) classes, we again have Mrs. Betty, Mrs. Hooper, and Ms. Shakila.

We are happy to welcome a new music teacher who will be teaching music to all students. Students will meet Mrs. Fach this week when music classes start on Tuesday.

We have all familiar faces in our classroom support staff team this year. We are happy to welcome back: Ms. Michelle, Ms. Gibbins, Mrs. Minhas, Mrs. K., Mrs. Massey, Ms. Irum, Ms. Christine, Mrs. Weir, and Ms. Kristie.

We are using a new attendance process this year which allows us to send out updates to parents much more quickly. If your child is absent and you did not have a chance to call and notify us, you will receive a phone message and an email notifying you of the absence at the same time. You can reply directly to either the phone message or the email (listen to the voicemail all the way through for instructions on which buttons to push) without having to call us back. Some families have found this more convenient, but you are always welcome to phone the office directly if you would prefer to speak to someone rather than leave a message. If you have a new phone number or email, please make sure you let us know so we can ensure the notifications get to you correctly.

In the main office, Mrs. MacLeod and I are both back and happy to help with any questions or concerns so please don't hesitate to reach out or stop by. We are excited for another wonderful year together and can't wait to be part of the learning for students! We hope to see everyone at meet the teacher in September!

Take care,

Sue Rutherford and Kim MacLeod
